    English Version:

Greetings everyone, we are your fellow comrades who made our exile from Hong Kong. It is the considerably urgency that forced us to publish this testimony, in hope of seeking help from all of you out there. As you all may know, there were already a good amount of frontline protesters and teams made their exile successfully, before and after the legislation of the National Security Law, with the generous help from different parties from all over the world. But seeking long term hospitality is not the right way to go and in here we will explain each of our situations.

Since our exile, we have devoted much of our energy in order to blend in well of our new lives. In the beginning, some of us sought monetary help from our friends, to support our daily expenses. But in order to be able to provide for ourselves, we had to do everything in our power to ensure that can happen. There are a fair amount of Chinese business owners who are willing to hire illegal labourers but with our disgust towards the communist regime and the fact that these jobs would not be able to help with our own endeavours, we would not bother working for them. Due to English proficiency and our educational background, we were only able to work labouring jobs and barely covering our daily expenses. Although some of us were able to launch an online shop after they settled in Taiwan, the difference in terms of expenses made it so we could barely support one another whether for England, Australia or Canada. We do not go down easily like that and we try everything that could possibly put us in a better position, and we were lucky to have our friends mailing stuff like instant noodles, crackers and such to us, just so we still can feel the bonding between one another during difficult time like this.

The above explained our situation and as always life would not be smooth as butter, we have to deal with issues no matter how big or small, how hard or easy. We would like to take this chance to share our lives to you all, and to further elaborate on why we had to seek generosity from you.

When Edward first got to Australia, the expenses, even compared with Hong Kong was too much for him to handle and he was yet to get a working permit so he had to cover the expenses through borrowing money off of his friends. In the meantime between time Edward made no slack as he knew he got to take his English proficiency up a notch in order to fit in. As a result, he utilized the waiting time to improve his English just so he can be prepared for school while constantly seeking for different paths for his pursue on academic. But when the opportunity presented itself, he only had so much money in his savings that could merely pay off the application fees not to mention the whole fee of the program, which forced his hand to seek for job opportunities first and postpone his schooling. After hustling for job opportunities he finally got a job that could only support his daily expenses, but at times his medical condition hindered him from working properly and regularly. In fact, Edward suffers from a congenital eye disease which as a result blurred his sight in one of his eyes, which would be best if he could receive a proper surgery. Just like everyone else, he breathed in lots of tear gas during the protest back in 2019 and worse yet, he was hit on the back of the head by a rubber bullet, which drastically worsen his conditions. Edward also suffers from a congenital spine abnormality, and combined with the wounds he got during the protest, he had to receive constant physical therapies in order for him to hold it together. To a degree, the local government in Australia can help with Edward’s condition, but even so, it could only help so much given how bad Edward’s condition is. Despite the help from the Australian government and funds by individuals, when it comes to patching up his body together again, he is looking at a lot of medical expenses.

Compared with Edward, James is in a similar situation. With little bit of savings and help from friends, he was able to support his basic expenses. Due to Coronavirus, it took longer than usual for James’ refugee application. He spent a fair amount of time after he got his work permit, only to be able to work part time in a company, whereas the salary was just about enough for his daily expenses, he was able to provide for himself for a period of time after all. James was on a good streak and was so close to able to work full time at that company but coronavirus made it so James hit a big bump on the way to his promotion, the company had to let him go, causing James to lose his only source of income and it’s back to square one for his hope to going back to University.

James’ work was physically more demanding than other regular 9 to 5 jobs, his job required him working outdoor no matter good or bad weather, but in order to get by, he bite through his teeth all the way until he was laid off. This job has also worsened James’ healthy condition, especially in the neck and lower back area. The above factors made it difficult for James to seek professional help on his conditions, and only after some research did James realize how little the health insurance from the government could aid on his health conditions. Until the next lucky strike lands on James together with his continuous efforts, he has to forfeit the opportunity of seeking medical help for now.

As for Chris who is currently residing in the UK, if you guys paid enough attention to our page you would know he is more low-profile than the rest of us, and he barely interacts with people on social media. Due to the seriousness of the case he is involved in, he stays on high alert even though he left Hong Kong for quite some time already.

When he first got to the UK the local government has not announced any plans for BNO visas, in addition to that he also tried to stay away from other protesters group as he is in deep water for his case, so he entered the UK by travel visa first, then tried to apply for local universities in the UK, hoping to be able to obtain a tier 4 student visa and aimed to apply for a “post-graduate working visa”. If everything goes smooth as he planned, he can at least be assured to secure 4 years time in the UK to figure out his next moves.

Originally this sounded like a good plan, until some problems and obstacles arises. Chris never relied on any support from other people, although to this moment he still got some savings from before for expenses, the oncoming raise in prices for university programs made it so he will not be able to pay for the whole Masters program. More so, he had to use up more of his savings for helping someone who just got to the UK, and being forced to move out of his place, all these struggled and pressure him a lot. Just not too long ago he got an good offer for a place to live by a guy from Hong Kong who is living in the UK now, unfortunately Chris was not able close the deal quick enough as the guy rent the place to other people before Chris could. As Lee Yee once said, we all got to reap what we sow, although Chris knew for a fact that what he is facing now is not to be blamed on anyone else but himself, planning things ahead is one thing, but dealing with reality is the other. For Chris to find a place that he can afford to live in is nowhere easy, not to mention the amount of uncertainties he has to deal with.

The Chinese Coronavirus poisoned the whole world from 2020 until this very day, although we are long way from home, we could not evade the damage caused by the Chinese Communist regime, lockdowns were always in place for most of the countries out there, leading to the closing down of many businesses and the recession in the economy worldwide, combined with all these factors, it is no doubt that it is hard on us to find a good and stable job out there. On one hand, we understand the fact that if we want to deepen our roots in where we live now, we got to make improvements, or pick up our academic from where we left off. On the other hand, huge expenses like dealing only with Edward’s medical condition is beyond overwhelming. As for what we are dealing with now, all these attempts at pursuing academic needs and medical expenses are beyond our power to tackle, and that’s the reason why we hope to get help from those of you who are willing to do so.

We did not want to publicly seek for generosity in the first place, but it is getting out of our hands. It is our greatest hope to eliminate these problems and issues that we are facing, just so we can finally settle down and proceed to what we have planned in the future. For how bad shape Hong Kong is now in, and with all the limitations, the fight is forced to be reshaped into something else, and that is when we understand the importance of those who are not in Hong Kong anymore, including us. We know very well that we are not in the front line anymore, but it is our greatest belief that we can pass the spirit of this fight on, gearing up ourselves, try doing what we do best and fight for a better path for our Home.

We understand every dime and cent from you guys are your hard-earned money, no matter the amount we will be able to gather, we will never forget this graceful hand from you all. We would also like to let those who are still fighting back home, exile is the last hand we wanted to play, only if we bury this brutal regime, Hong Kong and its people can then finally be saved.

At last, we hope that we all remember our heart and spirit, and that one day we can all be reunited again.

Once again, thank you all and we hope all of you to be safe and sound.
